The kitchen

The Abby had a nice dining room that was used for larger groups, but other guests (like us) ate in the "kitchen" around this big table. I liked it best. It had this warm, homey, feeling of an old French country kitchen. The other guests, who also ate in the kitchen, were an interesting and diverse group. Too much to explain here, but all of us sitting around this table at dinner in this old, rather mysterious, place seemed like living in an Agatha Christie murder mystery, except everyone seemed to get along fine and  I heard no screams of murder in the night (although next morning at breakfast we were missing one young lady, who Evie claims just checked out early).

The food was really good, The same great "continental" breakfast. The first dinner was some sort of vegetable soup and then chili con carne. (Strange, but apparently chili con carne is a popular dish here. We saw it in Germany on a restaurant menu). The next dinner was delicious pork, potatoes and a mix of cooked carrots and some other vegetable (may have been turnips), but surprisingly good.

While the "kitchen" room had the cozy feeling, this is where the real kitchen work is done (nice set up for an old 12th Century Abby)
