Thanksgiving in Hot Springs Arkansas

Here's some pictures from our Thanksgiving trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas (boyhood home of Bill Clinton and historic springs and bathhouses)

This is on a lovely walkway along the side of the hill with the springs. A famous old hotel is in the background

Actually the springs are covered and feed directly into the bath houses that line this street.  For reasons too long to explain, the federal government took ownership of the springs when Arkansas was a territory before it became a state and the bathhouses operate on concessions from the National Park Service.

Unlike the other bathhouse which only offer a private bath, this bath house offers a public bath (more like a very large and nice hot tub) and we were all excited to try it on the Friday afternoon after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, so were too many others and they limit the number in the pool (i.e., we didn't get in).

The Park Service has a nice museum with an instructional video about these natural hot baths and the experience offered by these bathhouses. This all seems really weird to me and apparently to a lot of others (hence the reason for the video to explain it and this bath house was featured in the video). We didn't go in. It requires an appointment and, as a private personal bath experience, it is expensive.

The town of Hot Springs sits in a little valley surrounded by hills. At the top of one of the hills is this look out tower. You can take an elevator to the top (Evie and Ale) or walk up the stairs (Dave and Mike).

Ale and Dave at a lookout along one of the roads above the town.

Of course, there were also walks with Roderick and Jewells in a nearby state park
