It is really pretty fun and a surprising number of people (such as us) come out here for no purpose other that to spend a pleasant afternoon/early evening watching airplanes land.

DFW
Texans like to build BIG things, like the DFW airport, and then build nice monuments to commemorate themselves for having built them. This is a picture of the little (by Texas standards) monument to the builders of the DFW airport, which surrounds the original signal tower. Great founding visionaries notwithstanding, no one, other than perhaps the gardeners, care anything about that.
But while commemorating themselves, they also built a really handy place to watch airplanes take off and land (which seems to happen about every 2 minutes) while listening to the flight controllers broadcast from loudspeakers.
