A good place for a walk

Most dogs in our Flower Mound neighborhood with thoughtful owners get nice walks on a leash on the sidewalks along our streets. Roderick and Jewels, however, prefer an "adventure" walk along the North Shore Trail at the Twin Coves park on Grapevine Lake, conveniently located a short distance from our house.  Even though against posted park rules, but since no one is around much and the camp hosts don't seem to mind, Roderick and Jewels get to walk "off leash" and, although Evie won't let them dawdle on the trail, they can pee and poop and sniff around pretty much where ever they want (which for a dog is what the walk is all about).

As you may have noticed from the media reports our three year drought in north Texas is over due to several days of constant rain - Texas style - continuous weather alerts (flood warnings, tornado and severe storm) and, of course, thunder and the beautiful lightening storms along the big Texas horizon. So once the storms were over, Roderick and Jewels were anxious to get out to Twin Coves again for their regular walk along the North Shore trail, especially since everything seemed so fresh and green following all the rain. See the picture below, unfortunately

This was taken on the access road about a 100 yards in from Wichita Trail (the major road). The North Shore trail head is just to the left of this picture and under several feet of water.

Not easily deterred, they went to nearby Murrell Park, also on Grapevine Lake, to check out some of Evie's favorite trails, and found this:

The entrance gate and office is now surrounded by water, The porta-potty marks the water's edge. The boat docks and picnic tables are straight ahead (but now completely submerged). Earlier there was a picture in the newspaper of two guys sitting on a picnic table (one of those covered with a little roof) surrounded by water fishing. Now those tables (including the roofs) are underwater.

With their best trails now part of the greater Grapevine Lake fish habit, what are couple of dogs to do?

Gather up their leashes, food dishes and favorite dog treats and go here:

And as it turns out Mike and Evie signed a contract to sell the Flower Mound house. Assuming the buyers do not exercise a termination option in the next 7 days and the parties all fulfill their contractual obligations, on July 30 Roderick and Jewels (as well as Mike and Evie) will be homeless in Texas.
