Christmas 2012 (again and again)

In 1974 my parents, together with an electic collection of others in the Nampa 2nd ward who also lacked family in the area or anything particular to do on Christmas Eve, got together in the early evening for a light dinner (originally just fondue), to sing Christmas carols and read the Christmas Story. They have been doing that on Christmas Eve every year since (some 38 years). Some who were infants in baby carriers now attend with spouses and kids of their own. Others have come for the first time or only for a few years. Sadly, others who regularly came, such as my father, have passed away. My Mom, who so much enjoyed the event and who took such great joy in inviting those who would have otherwise spent a forgotten and lonely Chistmas Eve, still comes but with age and dementia is not able to enjoy it as she once did.

But that's what we (me, Evie, Evie, Daniel and Janiel) did again for Christmas Eve in Nampa. It was, as always, great fun and thanks to those who have continued this great tradition.

This is us at Grandma/Janell's on Christmas morning.

This year we organized life so as to have Christmas again in Park City on December 27 with Andy and Caleb and Annika. Following what seems to be a Hyer kid family tradition, we performed the Christmas story on Christmas Eve (December 26) with varying degrees of fidelity to the scriptural account.

Christmas morning (again)

One very excited Jedi (special thanks to Aunt Janell who picked this out because she couldn't find what she was looking for)
